By joining our Elizabethtown Section as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Hardin County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance and bridge operations.
Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
- Learning and assisting with basic surveying activities on construction projects.
- Learning the duties of installation and repair of bridges and joints.
- Operating a tractor-type mowing machine, assisting in brush cutting, and using chemical sprayers.
- Hauling materials to and from job sites.
- Flagging for operations requiring traffic control.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
- Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
- Experience in equipment operations for road maintenance.
- Experience completing shift or on-call schedules.
