CONSUMER UNDERWRITER POSITION

Our Consumer Underwriters are enthusiastic about providing outstanding service to our members and consumers within the community. This position will utilize a mature and extensive understanding of complex underwriting, data, and trends to make appropriate underwriting decisions. Our Consumer Underwriters will examine, evaluate, and authorize approval or denial of borrower's applications for consumer credit. They will maintain a professional attitude and take personal ownership of resolving problems and creating financial solutions. In some cases, loan transactions may be complex in nature and require a significant level of independent decision-making ability.

This position interacts extensively with branch staff and dealer lending accounts to gather required information for credit applications, explain loan options, rates, terms, and collateral requirements. This role also reviews and evaluates proof of income and other supporting documentation to complete the indirect loan funding process. The Consumer Underwriter will ensure loan decisions meet established service level agreements; are timely, complete and in accordance with policy and requirements set out in regulation. Organization and attention to detail will be key in the Consumer Underwriter role to efficiently manage the underwriting pipeline.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CONSUMER UNDERWRITER

• High school diploma or equivalent, with Associates degree in business or related field preferred.
• Three years' MSR experience, with 1 year of consumer lending including loan origination with advanced understanding of credit preferred.
• Two or more years' experience in consumer underwriting strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a centralized lending environment preferred.
• Knowledge of consumer products, policies, procedures and relevant lending regulations.
• Knowledge of general financial institution policy and procedures.
• PC proficient with a good working knowledge of common software applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
• The ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of the Meridian Link/Opening Act loan origination system and Symitar (Episys) core system preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish preferred.
