Performs technical work assisting with field surveys and PLSS maintenance, performing, and providing technical support in the CAD design and plan preparation for County projects and plat review. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Deputy County Surveyor.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in customer service or public contact work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in technical land surveying or experience using CAD, GIS, and GPS software is desired.

General knowledge of State and Federal laws; willingness and aptitude to learn general principle and practices of land surveying, and County's Public Land Survey System, land record registration and filing; general knowledge or willingness to learn CAD and GIS software; strong mathematical skills; general understanding of application to field surveying and survey computations or ability to learn; knowledge of, and ability to use, various hand tools, jackhammer, coring machine, paint sprayer, County UTV, County work truck and various materials; willingness and aptitude to learn surveying procedures and ability to learn and use land surveying equipment such as GPS, Total Station, Data Collector and Level; willingness to learn traffic control procedures and practices; aptitude to learn engineering maps and records, subdivision platting; plat checking, computations and review for local and State compliance; Ability to learn and utilize a survey field data collector in the office and/or field applications; general knowledge and skill in the use of standard office equipment, including computer and micro-computer and software programs including survey applications; verbal and written communication skills sufficient to effectively draft and present information, respond to questions from a wide variety of audiences; reading comprehension skills sufficient to understand and interpret legal descriptions, survey records and maps, and technical documents; interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and/or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships; ability to pay attention to detail and effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; ability to perform all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices; ability to communicate courteously and professionally while maintaining positive working relationships with others when carrying out all job functions.
