Job Description

We are currently looking for a highly motivated experienced Sr. Systems Engineer - Mechanical FEA (Finite Element Analysis) Analyst with a BS/MS and 5+ years’ work experience to join our team of Systems Engineers on the Modeling, Simulation, and Training Tools team at the Walt Disney Company. In this role, you will provide detailed engineering analysis and simulation services for Walt Disney Imagineering, Ride and Show Engineering, Engineering Services, and Entertainment. These services will include developing finite element analyses (ANSYS FEA); rigid multi-body dynamic models (ANSYS RBD, Simscape); data collection and analysis (MATLAB); scripting and automation for analysis tools (Python, ANSYS APDL); learning and applying computational fluid dynamic techniques to water ride analyses (Fluent CFD); and mentoring less-experienced engineers.

The Sr. Systems Engineer - Mechanical FEA Analyst reports to the Team Leader Systems Engineer.

You Will:

On any given day, as a Sr. Systems Engineer - Mechanical FEA Analyst, you might:

  • Build finite element models for static structural analyses (e.g. ANSYS, SpaceClaim, SolidWorks).
  • Build rigid body dynamic models for complex systems for structural analysis (e.g. ANSYS, Simscape, SolidWorks).
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and ensure that assigned designs are in compliance with appropriate regulatory codes and internal standards.
  • Analyze results for stress, strain, displacement, modes, etc., and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Prepare final reports, formal documentation, and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and communicating results to partners.
  • Support FEA scripting and software tool development for automation of analysis processes and deliver software demonstrations to internal partners.
  • Work with the team to learn and apply computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis techniques for water ride simulations.
  • Work with our Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) and Facilities and Operational Services (FOS) partners to ensure all requirements are included in the simulations and analyses.
  • Track and advise project teams and leadership on project schedule and budget trends.
  • Provide recommendations for new projects or business ventures that fit the organization’s strategic plan.

You Will Have:

Here's what you need to be successful at this job:

  • 5+ years working in a related role in the entertainment or general engineering industries.
  • Highly proficient in finite element analysis (FEA) software such as ANSYS (highly preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead medium to large analysis or simulations projects overseeing a small team of supporting engineers.
  • Must be able to train and mentor interns and less experienced engineering personnel on analysis efforts.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, structural analysis, machine design principles and materials modeling.
  • Strong physics and mathematics academic background.
  • Strong interest in system and software design, coding, and debugging.
  • Experience with dynamics systems modeling and working with linear and non-linear materials solutions in finite element space.
  • Experience with scripting and programming in software languages such as Python and C++.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and assess problems in the field to develop and implement solutions.
  • Familiar with GitHub, Smarteam or similar version control and documentation revision tool sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

It would be great if you also have:

  • Proven Professional Engineer License or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ride and Show Control.
  • Proficiency in the computational fluid dynamics software Fluent CFD.

Education:

  • Proven Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent from ABET-certified curriculum (preferred). Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Computer Engineering may also be considered.
  • MSEE, MSME, MSCE, and/or post-graduate work is preferred.
