Why does the job exist?

This job exists to assure the highest level of care for patients at Turquoise Lodge Hospital (TLH). This position is under the direction of the Medical Director and will provide addiction medicine services for patients including assessment and management of substance use disorders and co-morbid disorders. Medical and psychiatry services are provided in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

How does it get done?

The incumbent is responsible for the independent assessment and management of substance use disorders as well as co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions.

Who are the customers?

Adult patients with substance use disorders.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is board eligible or board certified in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine. However, board eligible or certified physicians in other specialties with an interest and experience in treating substance use disorders will be considered.

Minimum Qualification

Requires a license to practice medicine in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Internal Medicine or Family Practice Board Certification, possess an active controlled substance license and DEA registration in New Mexico.

Employment Requirements

This position will provide services in a residential treatment setting involving extended periods of walking, sitting, standing and bending. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Incumbent may be exposed to potentially violent patients in volatile situations requiring crisis intervention. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and lifting and/or transfer of patients with or without assistance, using proper lifting and transfer techniques may be required.

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
