Job Title: Lead Adventure Guide
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Hours: Part-time (flexible schedule including weekends and holidays)
Summary:
Omahas Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Lead Adventure Guide to facilitate child/adult play interaction helping to develop the childs physical capabilities, cognitive abilities and strengthen social emotional skills while in in the Childrens Adventure Trails exhibit. Lead Adventure Guides implement new play activities and model the best child/parent interactions. Lead Adventure Guides strive to enrich childrens natural curiosity through diverse, child-centered explorations. This position reports directly to the Childrens Adventure Trails Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Use open-ended and multiple outcome experiences for children developing the physical, social emotional and cognitive abilities.
Maintains a safe, educationally sound, engaging environment for guests. Provides excellent customer service.
Models engaging play for part time staff
Maintains daily records of incidents and activities
Provides excellent customer services while providing zoo information and assisting guest during incidents and complaints
Assists with daily exhibit operations
Maintains and organizes play materials
Conducts daily meetings in the absents of supervisor and manager
Assists supervisor with daily duties
Main point of contact in the absents of supervisor and manager
Meets weekly with Adventure Trails Supervisor
Work Skills:
Knowledge of early childhood education techniques.
Ability to utilize play activities while also allowing for open-ended and multiple outcome experiences with guests in Adventure Trails.
Must have strong guest service and public speaking skills.
Must possess an outgoing personality and enthusiastic attitude.
Must work well under pressure and in diverse weather conditions.
Some animal handling will be required.
Qualifications:
Ability to multi task, use good judgement and enhance the guests experiences while playing in the Adventure Trails Exhibit.
Ideal candidateembraces children as curious, collaborative, and innovative individuals.
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age or older.
Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check with a good driving record, and a tuberculosis test.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required, training in early childhood teaching techniques desired.
Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
Position requires standing for long periods, walking, and the ability to use hands to signal and feel.
Reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch and/or crawl; talk and hear; occasionally sit; frequently lift a minimum of 20-25 lbs.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors; under all weather conditions.
This position requires a minimum of 20 hours of availability weekly during the summer season.
