    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator of World Language and Immersion, the Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Specialist is an 11-month position with state-level responsibilities. Major responsibilities include the on-site assistance of implementing Spanish DLI programs in the Appoquinimink School District and the neighboring Christina School District. Some statewide travel is required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Collaborate with the Coordinator of World Language and Immersion in the Appoquinimink School District and the Education Specialist for Dual Language Immersion at the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) to assist in the development and implementation of high-quality immersion programs across Appoquinimink and the neighboring Christina School District.
    • Collaborate in the design and implementation of district DLI Support plans based on the needs of the district, administrators, and teachers.
    • Provide technical assistance to classroom DLI teachers as well as district and school-based administration on the implementation of immersion programs K-8 as outlined in the DLI Support plans.
    • Monitor the implementation of DLI programs and the impact of professional learning on instructional practices by conducting regular instructional rounds or walkthroughs.
    • Work cooperatively with other district staff in all content areas to enhance and support DLI learning.
    • Collaborate with the DDOE Education Specialist for Dual Language Immersion in the design and delivery of yearly cycles of statewide DLI teacher and administrator professional learning.
    • Collaborate with the district Coordinator to submit an end-of-year District DLI Impact Report to the DDOE.
    • Design and deliver educational sessions for families in all DLI grades on the benefits of long-term DLI education and how families can promote successful learning beyond the classroom.
    • Advocate for DLI education across the state with multiple interest groups.
    • Perform other duties as required by the Coordinator in the district’s agreement with the DDOE.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:

    Education: Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in immersion education, in Spanish language, bilingual education or in elementary education with advanced-level language proficiency in Spanish.

    Experience:
    • Three (3) years relevant work experience in elementary classroom teaching, immersion teaching or content-related elementary or middle school world language teaching.
    • Advanced-level language proficiency in Spanish.
    Skills:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
    • Familiarity with district initiatives
    • Experience implementing the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics
    • Experience designing and implementing proficiency-oriented dual language immersion literacy curriculum
    • Experience with implementing and supporting two-way immersion programs
    • Ability to design results-oriented professional learning experiences for a variety of educators
    • Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision
    • Ability to set strategic priorities and work under pressure
    • Ability to proactively problem-solve with professionalism
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff in a tactful, congenial and professional manner
    • Valid driver’s license as statewide travel is required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
