Maintains grounds and landscape of casino and racing property

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates with Landscape Lead in preparing and grading terrain, applying fertilizers, seeding and sodding lawns, and transplanting shrubs and plants.
  • Plants lawns and plants and cultivates them.
  • Plants new, and repairs established lawns, using seed mixtures and fertilizers recommended for particular soil type and lawn location.
  • Locates and plants shrubs, trees, and flowers.
  • Mows and trims lawns.
  • Trims shrubs and cultivates flower gardens.
  • Cleans grounds and ponds on property.
  • Waters and nurtures plants, trees, shrubs, and grass.
  • Sprays trees and shrubs and applies supplemental liquid and dry nutrients to lawn and trees.
  • Digs trenches and installs drain tiles
  • Installs and maintains irrigations.
  • Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions.
  • Other duties as assigned

SOCIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have an outgoing, energetic and enthusiastic attitude. Must be comfortable initiating conversations and creating a fun environment with our guests.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain a license from Indiana Horse Racing Commission. Must have valid driver's license.
