Job Description

In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) contract in the near future, Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a Project Engineer for Propulsion to promote HLS and other programs as part of a diverse team that develops lunar landers, other cislunar spacecraft, and a wide range of critical technologies for civil, military, and commercial space programs.

The Propulsion Fluid System (PFS) Deputy Lead will boost the Propulsion Cross-Product Team for development of HLS with primary accountability for planning, establishing, tracking, and executing complex tasks within technical, schedule, and budget constraints and will report to the PFS Lead and program management on project progress. The PFS Deputy Lead will coordinate with corporate contracts, pricing, and accounting to ensure projects are set up and managed according to company policies and processes. The PFS Deputy Lead will work with customers and suppliers to ensure tasks are completed on time and budget. Candidates will also interface with the Propulsion Lead, program leadership, and other project engineers/managers, mechanical designers, component engineers, test engineers, safety, and quality within Dynetics. Candidates will work in a team environment to assist conceptual design through qualification and product implementation. Candidates should expect to interact frequently with suppliers and customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institute.
  • Candidates will have at least 12 years of space hardware-related work history (10 years of relevant work history and an applicable MS degree is acceptable).
  • Candidates will have work history with complex system engineering practices and processes, including the product development cycle through qualification and production.
  • Candidates will have work history with thermal, fluid, and mechanical system engineering, enquiry, and testing.
  • Candidates will demonstrate a working knowledge of development program data deliverable necessities, with history working government contracts.
  • Candidates will be able to work with suppliers to help them meet both hardware and non-hardware deliverable necessities.
  • The position may require travel, including periods of frequent travel for critical program assembly, integration, and test activities.
  • Candidates will have work history speaking within a team environment.
  • Candidates will be able to work in a combined environment with a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Candidates will be residents of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preferred candidates may possess a master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institute.

Preferred candidates may have work history and/or working knowledge of the following:

  • Space hardware-related work history
  • NASA, DoD, or commercial space system development projects
  • NASA engineering design and study practices and processes
  • Earned Value Management (EVM)

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
