Summary

Innovation Partnerships is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Compliance Coordinator to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented and organized individual to take on a vital role within our business operations team and make a meaningful impact at the university.

The Compliance Coordinator will support the efforts of our organization through the handling of tasks related to compliance obligations that ensure that the University remains compliant in its obligations to funding agencies of sponsored research under various types of funding agreements and awards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Invention Sponsorship Compliance (30%): Every invention disclosure that is received by Innovation Partnerships must be reviewed and funding sources determined. The Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for recording and reporting invention disclosures and patent applications to external sponsors. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Bayh-Dole Act and the ability to review and interpret various contracts, including Sponsored Research and License Agreements.
  • Federal Reporting & Government Compliance Management (60%): In conjunction with the Compliance Specialist, ensure that the University meets all federal compliance obligations related to Invention and Intellectual Property (collectively referred to as IP) contained within Federal Sponsored Research Agreements. The Compliance Coordinator will handle the reporting obligations in our internal IP database (Sophia) and in iEdison, the federal government's interagency online reporting system. This includes the reporting of inventions and patent applications, recording title election decisions, requesting patent filing extensions and annual utilization reporting.
  • Industry and Foundation Reporting and Compliance Management (10%): Assist the Compliance Specialist with activities related to compliance of industry and foundation sponsored research agreements where needed.

Other work/responsibilities

  • Ensure that the internal systems are updated with appropriate information related to compliance matters.

Required Qualifications*

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to prioritize and/or manage multiple duties and perform required tasks with minimal supervision
  • Considerable administrative experience organizing and processing complex information
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Excellent customer service and organization skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of the Bayh-Dole Act, iEdison and federal compliance tools and processes
  • Ability to review and interpret various types of contracts and legal documents
  • 2 or more years of experience in compliance, a patent licensing office, or similar
  • Experience with databases and workflow-based tools
  • Experience with Salesforce software
  • Prior legal assistance is not necessary

Additional Information

  • The position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Operations for the Innovation Partnerships Office.
  • The work schedule for this full-time position is hybrid. Most days are remote, but physical presence will be required from time to time, including when working with physical documents or as required to interact with other units on campus.
