Position Summary

Seeking a passionate communicator to promote and advance women’s health at Columbia University. The Strategic Communications Coordinator will assist the Chief Strategy Officer for the Department of Ob/Gyn in managing the department’s external communications initiatives, including developing, planning, and managing the department’s web and social media properties; marketing and editorial content; and digital and print assets.

Responsibilities

Support the Chief Strategy Officer and other senior leadership in drafting, designing, and distributing department- level messaging; collaborate with teams inside and outside the department to develop content.

Manage the department web properties including strategy, concept development and content creation, including Institutional announcements, such as news about organizational structure, administrative appointments, and employee recognition; and stories on people, events and initiatives which engage internal audiences. Uphold standards for consistent, clear and high-quality site content, including SEO optimization and incorporating new website features as available.

Make recommendations and incorporate learning from analytics data into ongoing maintenance of the department’s web properties and campaigns.

Conduct regular quality assurance reviews to assess user experience and ensure site optimization.

Prepare and post content for social media.

Provide strategic counsel, guidance, and communications support (including reviewing and editing materials) to internal teams

Develop, plan, and manage content creation and distribution for the department including engagement-driven internal and external newsletters and marketing campaigns, as well as PowerPoints, templates, and other print and digital marketing collateral.

Assist with planning and promotion of virtual and in-person events, including informational webinars, faculty retreats, staff appreciation days, and community events.

Participate in new faculty onboarding and ongoing marketing and outreach efforts, including creation and management of their online profiles, and development of marketing collateral, and creative direction of photo shoots.

Project manage the development of department annual reports, including writing and coordinating content, liaising with vendors, and overseeing distribution to stakeholders.

Develop branding and creative templates for department in line with Columbia University branding standards, maintaining a suite of print and digital marketing collateral.

Assess content, including print and digital materials to ensure that it adheres to university brand message and goals, including editing for accuracy, voice, readability, and consistency.

Provide administrative support to the Chief Strategy Officer as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in communications, health policy management, or public health preferred.

Background in health and science with MPH or MS in Communications preferred.

Technical skills including PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, familiarity with video and audio.
