The primary function of this research position is the design and execution of analytical experiments toward characterization of proteins and diagnostic reagent formulations.

CORE JOB DUTIES:

The successful candidate will be capable of skillfully conducting multiple classic and customized analytical techniques, primarily applied to protein biomolecules. A specific requirement of the position includes expertise with quantitative and qualitative measurements using HPLC, electrophoretic (gel and capillary), immunochemical and spectroscopic (including microtiter) analytical methods. The candidate must be capable of functioning within a cross-functional team involved with new product development and able to anticipate critical product development needs from biological molecule analysis. Ability to critically process analytical data and results as well as interpretation and summarization of data from analytical methods for stakeholders is a necessity. The position will require excellent team-working and adaptability competencies as well as strong technical communication skills, both in written and oral form. The candidate must also be effective with timely and accurate record-keeping of laboratory work.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Designs and conducts experiments, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data, interprets, results and draws conclusions.
  • Evaluates data using analytical methodologies to achieve results.
  • Recommends options for future experiments.
  • Presents scientific observations to others.
  • Trains lower-level scientists.
  • Expertise and Problem Solving: Identifies technical alternatives.
  • Utilizes multiple analytical instruments.
  • Anticipates, recognizes and resolves technical problems.
  • Project Planning: Participates in project planning, updates and process improvements.
  • Implements project plans comprehending resource, budget, facility and regulatory requirements.
  • Translates top-level goals to specific project level goals for individual team member.
  • Establishes and reviews complex plans for multiple projects or activities.
  • Plans resource allocation and distribution.
  • Scientific Leadership: Submits ideas for inventions; publishes; innovates through patent filings and/or scientific publications.
  • Perform FTO's (Freedom to Operate). Economic Profitability: Provide direction to project team to meet economic profitability (EP) profile for the project (product cost analysis).
  • Lab Safety: Participates in lab safety.
  • Documentation: Appropriately documents experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. plus 4 years minimum related lab/industrial experience or M.S. with 2 years minimum relevant experience or Ph.D. in a life or physical science. Degree(s) should be in either a biological or chemical science field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with standard bioanalytical methods used to characterize protein biomolecules is required.
  • Past demonstration of ability to optimize analytical methods to new applications and troubleshoot instrumentation or method problems when they occur is also a requirement.
  • Knowledge of antibodies and immunochemical methods would facilitate the candidate’s integration into immediate work activities.
  • Experience with protein structure / function relationships would also be beneficial.
  • This position will also benefit from knowledge and experience with test method characterization and validation as well as statistical evaluation of data from analysis of biologic reagents.
