THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections at SCI Benner is looking for a highly motivated, detailed oriented person with bookkeeping experience to join our team as an Accounting Assistant! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for:

  • Keeping inmates' accounts up to date and accurate for your assigned Institution
  • All inmate releases and transfers, answering requests/inquiries concerning inmate accounts and resolving discrepancies
  • Typing memos, providing account summaries, returning telephone inquiries and posting entries into Quickbooks
  • Posting accounting data to ledgers, books, registers, and journals
  • Making routine adjustments to accounts
  • Preparing daily summary and monthly accumulative reports
  • Taking routine trial balances and preparing routine and/or proceduralized financial reports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment; 37.5 hours/week.
  • Work hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $37,144 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
