The County of Riverside’s Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks a Temporary Hazardous Waste Inspector to support the Department of Waste Resources. The primary reporting location will be Moreno Valley, and the incumbent will travel throughout Riverside County depending on the needs of the Department. Travel location sites include: Murrieta, Jurupa, and Palm Springs.
Under close supervision, conducts inspections and investigations involved with the enforcement of hazardous and prohibited waste regulations at solid waste facilities; provides direct contractor oversight at Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events and/or permanent facilities; inspects, classifies, regulates, and separates hazardous and prohibited waste from the solid waste stream; to be responsible for ensuring adherence to County, state, and federal regulations and laws which prohibit dumping of hazardous waste materials; and performs other related duties as required.
The Hazardous Waste Inspector I is the entry level classification in the Hazardous Waste Inspector series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents receive formal on-the job training in the techniques and procedures essential to conducting waste load inspections, investigations in the enforcement of hazardous and prohibited waste regulations and in solving environmental problems related to hazardous waste. Incumbents may be promoted to the Hazardous Waste Inspector II level after acquiring the required education and experience and a satisfactory work performance evaluation.
