What role you will play in our team


  • Support core business activities in the Petroleum Geochemistry Group for Exploration, Development, Production and Low Carbon Solutions.

  • Work will be conducted in-person at ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus located north of Houston in Spring, Texas, USA.

What you will do


  • Evaluate source rock presence, quality, type, maturation, hydrocarbons (HC) generation potential, and kinetics

  • Identify migrated HCs using seep sediments, cuttings, cores, and fluid inclusions

  • Evaluate the origin (source facies, age), maturity, level of alteration (biodegradation, contamination) of HC fluids, determine source-to-oil correlation

  • Analyze pressure-volume-temperature-composition (PVTX) properties of fluids and integrate with geochemistry to understand controls on fluid properties

  • Evaluate static and dynamic reservoir connectivity for production and development

  • Production allocation of oils from conventional and unconventional assets

  • Model rock-fluid and fluid-fluid chemical interactins for carbon sequestration

  • QA/QC external and internal analytical geochemistry data; evaluate vendors and partners’ reports

  • Improve PG workflow, capability, and competitiveness including but not limited to analytical geochemistry, molecular geochemistry, geochemical modelling, database digitization, and workflow automation

  • Plan and execute geochemical business application projects, translate technical work into business context & provide recommendations

About you


Skills and Qualifications


  • Candidates should have < 3 years of professional experiences in one or more areas pertinent to geochemistry including, but not limited to, molecular geochemistry, petroleum geochemistry, aqueous geochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry, fluid inclusion/PVTX, rock-fluid interactions, petroleum system analysis

  • A PhD or MS in any of the following: organic geochemistry, petroleum geochemistry, biogeochemistry, aqueous geochemistry, elemental geochemistry, analytical geochemistry, environmental geochemistry, fluid inclusion geochemistry, or related fields

  • Ability to analyze and interpret geochemical data from one or more analytical techniques including, but not limited to, chromatography, mass spectrometry, solid-state characterization, fluid inclusion petrography, micro thermometry, and spectroscopy

  • Familiar with numerical modelling and data analytics

  • Demonstrated leadership, adaptability, teamwork, excellent communication skills in English, and a commitment to higher safety and ethical standards. In addition, candidates should be able to work effectively within and across diverse technical teams

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience


  • Experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry, ICP, or spectroscopy, and related data processing

  • Knowledgeable about precursors, diagenesis, catagenesis, and geological fate of petroleum biomarkers and aromatic HC

  • Familiar with PVTX (fluid properties) applications in exploration, development, production, carbon capture and storage

  • Academic or industrial experience in carbon capture, carbon storage and related fields in low-carbon solutions

  • Ability to use one or more programming languages including Python, MATLAB, R, SQL or other statistical tools for data management, visualization, and analytics

  • Demonstrated effective communication and teaching
