About the position:

TJFACT is seeking to hire a Motor Vehicle Mechanic to join our team in Gulfport, MS.

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
  • Performs technical inspections and "field level maintenance" on all equipment in the 81st RSC area and potential external customers supported by the ECS/AMSA to the U.S. Army 10, 20 and 30 level standards per the appropriate Technical Manuals (TMs).
  • Assists higher graded repairers in the performance of more complex repairs such as removing, repairing, or replacing major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, steering boxes, fuel injection pumps, etc.
  • Performs service (scheduled & unscheduled) repairs indicated on DA FORM 2407 and 2404 on various types of combat and tactical, automotive, engineer, and powered support equipment provided by the government maintenance representative.
  • Completes repairs as indicated on AMSA/ECS generated work orders and DA FORM 2404, tests to assure no further complications and that work conforms to TM 10-20 standards.
  • Must accomplish work by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components. Replaces seats and shaft sealing rings, horns, wiring harnesses, starting switches, injector pumps, sensors, fuel, and water pumps; adjust voltage and current controls, engine idlers, brakes, transmission linkages; cleans and/or replaces filters, batteries, cables, engine components, and injector pumps and nozzles.
  • Repairs or replaces components of the cooling, braking, steering, exhaust, power train, or hydraulic systems.
  • Operates various types of forklifts ranging from 2,000 to 50,000 pounds capacity rough terrain, and various types of wheeled tracked and tracked cranes up through 25 tons loading, unloading, warehousing, and preparing equipment and supplies.
  • Transports and pick-ups equipment from shipping docks (must be licensed on equipment to operate).
  • Operates a variety of diesel-powered equipment to include generators, wheeled/track vehicles, semi-trailer combinations with up to 70-ton capacity.
  • May be required to operate equipment on and off the installation on public roads at highway speeds loaded or unloaded.
  • Stores equipment properly in warehouse and Military Equipment Park.
  • Takes oil samples in accordance with Army Oil Analysis Program (AOAP) procedures. Properly prepares and posts required documentation for AOAP and dispatching equipment. Prepares oil samples for shipment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal Education/Special Training: Must have completed Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 63B or 91B, 63H or 91H, or 63W or the associated Warrant Officer courses conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School.
  • MOS course completion may be substituted with completion of the civilian training Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification. ASE mechanics shall be trained and certified in a military technical school or civilian automotive vocational or technical school and possess documented experience on U.S. Army Fleets at the Field Level of maintenance (formerly organizational and direct support levels).
  • Licensed Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
