About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our facility in Pleasanton, California. You will be a member of the Research and Development team that develops new technologies and products based on functional nanostructured coatings fabricated using proprietary Rolling Mask Lithography (RML®) equipment and process technology. Your role will be to support fabrication and prototyping of novel Nanoweb® designs for transparent antenna, heater, and EMI shielding applications. You will be also responsible for electrical and mechanical characterization to evaluate design performance.

Some of the typical responsibilities will include:

  • Design electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems;
  • Support the rest of engineering team in quick prototyping creating engineering setups in the laboratory;
  • Operate prototyping and mechanical workshop tools (film cutter, laser cutter, 3D printers, aerosol jet printer, drills)
  • Work with the rest of the engineering team to develop Nanoweb® product prototypes;
  • Interface with hardware design and development;
  • Characterize design performance to verify that engineering requirements are met;
  • Design systems and components that meet needs and requirements;
  • Produce, test and evaluate designs;
  • Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability and safety;
  • Alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions;
  • Prepare product reports and documentation;
  • Support safety practices in the office and laboratory areas, including preparing/reviewing documentation and coordinating with other team members.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Familiarity with 2D or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g. Onshape, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ProE or other).

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • Solid understanding of core concepts, including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, material science, etc.;
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering (CAE) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner;
  • Experience with machinery tools (e.g., 3D printer, laser cutter, drills, or other)
