Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.


We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Learning Specialist.


Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree with a strong mathematics and/or biological science background. Computer science experience is a plus. The position also requires two (2) years of related work experience in teaching, tutoring, or other academic support areas.


Working Hours: Work hours will vary between 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and may require reporting to more than one DSC campus.


The starting salary is $38,500.00.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Plan, coordinate and present individualized and/or group academic assistance to students. Mentor and evaluate peer/professional tutors.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and conduct orientations, training, and/or workshops for students, faculty, staff, and volunteers.
  • Assist students with using computerized equipment.
  • Create and update supplemental resources to assure programs and services conform to best practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic disciplines to better provide support.
  • Gather, verify, and maintain data to support periodic and special reports. Review and process daily paperwork.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional seminars, and conferences to improve academic and professional skills.
  • Maintain and safeguard equipment, materials, and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must be able to relate to and work with students individually and/or in small groups, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively. They will exercise strong organizational skills, work in a multiple-task environment, promote positive student, faculty and staff relations.
