Emerald Management & Consulting is seeking an experienced Property Management Accountant to undertake all aspects of financial management for an assigned portfolio of clients. This role reports to the Director of Accounting and will work closely with property managers and other office staff, Board members, and homeowners. The position requires a full charge bookkeeper who is experienced in Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, month end close, bank reconciliation, and financial statements.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong organizational & leadership skills, attention to detail, and demonstrate good judgment and decision-making. In addition, the position requires the ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. Candidates must be comfortable working in an essentially paperless environment that uses technology to full advantage. Experience in accrual and fund accounting is desired and a good understanding of homeowner & condominium association governing documents and standards is ideal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all accounting operations including preparation of financial reports, A/R, A/P, and General Ledger.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, GL, and statement of cash flows, as per client requirements and as determined by Director of Accounting.
  • Perform period close activities, including processing of journal entries and batch transactions, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, analysis of variances against historical financial data and budget information.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and responsive accounting support to managers, homeowners, and vendors.
  • Prepare comprehensive year-end adjusting journal entries and accruals for assigned portfolio.
  • Assist in design, implementation, and ongoing execution of accounting practices & procedures.
  • Participate with annual budgeting process, providing property managers with assistance as needed.
  • Backup other accounting team members and assist Director of Accounting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Degree in Accounting is desired or sufficient experience in full-charge bookkeeping.
  • A minimum three (3) years of experience in property management accounting including general ledger and financial statements.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software; intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Experience in real-time, Windows or web-based accounting software is required. Experience in VMS, Caliber, TOPS, Yardi or similar accounting software will be helpful.
  • Experience with association loans and special assessments is desired.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships within a team while providing high levels of customer service by communicating clear and timely responses to issues, requests, and problems.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and determining opportunities for business improvement.
  • Ability to keep client and company information strictly confidential.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and changing priorities.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others in person, via email and by telephone.
  • Sufficient visual and mental acuity to comprehend written work instructions and make determination of necessary actions required to meet the presentation standards.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment.

Hours, Compensation & Location:

  • Full-time: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm; flexible schedule may be available.
  • Compensation based on experience.
