Movement gyms feature bouldering, top-roping and lead climbing, as well as amenities like yoga studios, functional fitness and cardio zones, childcare, and retail pro shops. Each facility caters to participants of all abilities – from competitive athletes to weekend adventurers and families. Presently, Movement is represented in greater Washington D.C./Maryland/Virginia, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Fountain Valley, and Portland. JOB SUMMARY

The Front Desk Team Member is essential to providing an awesome customer experience and drives our mission to share our passion, create community, and inspire philanthropy, while ensuring the gym provides a space for our community where everyone feels welcome. They are hard-working, inclusive, passionate individuals who love to share their enthusiasm for climbing, yoga, and fitness through excellent customer service. Areas of focus will include Gateway Programs and working the front desk. you will be a passionate, motivated individual who loves to work with and teach youth, provides a great customer experience, and has a desire to grow in the climbing community. The position involves top rope belaying for children and sometimes adults, facilitating games and activities, and managing risks for participants during our various youth programs. The programs include multi-day camps, After School Programs, parties, and other programs as needed. Part-time instructors are primarily working with youth between the ages of 4-17 for 1-4 hours per class, depending on the program. Prior climbing experience is not expected or required – we are excited to train individuals who are excited to learn!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a supervised and controlled environment during all our youth and other programs.
  • Communicate effectively with clients of all ages and abilities while demonstrating empathy and compassion.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all guests by seeking answers and solutions for customer questions.
  • Teach climbing skills from provided curriculums and create inclusive spaces that foster a sense of belonging.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with co-workers and supervisors about feedback and concerns.
  • Speak open and honestly; asking for help when needed and look to learn from mistakes.
  • Develop skills to effectively communicate with others and listen to other perspectives to build partnerships.
  • Greet and check-in members and guests
  • Sell and promote membership and pass products, retail items, and instruction/course products
  • Assist with retail receiving
  • Deliver belay checks and conduct climbing floor safety walks
  • Instruct 1-hour Belay Lessons (typically teach one lesson per shift)
  • Ensure customer service delivered aligns with Movements mission and core values

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a passion for climbing, yoga, or fitness, or an interest in engaging with our community, and shows a growth mindset through a willingness to learn and a sense of curiosity.
  • Welcoming and adaptable attitude; have a relentlessly positive and upbeat attitude to inspire others to live life intentionally and strive for personal bests.
  • Demonstrate an openness to learn from others and collaborate to achieve common goals.
  • Interest in working with both children and adults to support others having transformative, purpose-driven experiences.
  • Prior experience working with youth preferred but not required.
  • Excellent customer service skills/ability to manage positive customer relationships and interactions.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Regular evening and weekend availability required
  • Ability to work 8-12 hours per week primarily on weekday afternoons/evenings between 4-8pm and at least one full weekend day.
  • Ability to work a complete After School Program, which run for 6 or 8 consecutive weeks on the same day.
  • Experience in teaching educational programs and/or experience in the outdoor/climbing industry a plus

This is a part-time position with a starting rate of $17.50.
