Job Description

  • 6+ years of corporate development, private equity, investment banking, or other transaction-related / due diligence experience
  • BA / BS degree required

Amazon.com seeks a Finance Manager to partner with the company’s Corporate Development and Business Development organizations and other senior business leaders. The person in this high visibility role will be responsible for evaluating a wide range of business opportunities, including M&A, investments, commercial partnerships, and strategic alliances. In addition, the person in this position will assist in leading due diligence efforts and conduct extensive research on industries, potential partners, and competitors and communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and executive team. This position plays a key, active role on a small team that drives corporate transactions across Amazon. This person will own the complex financial analyses that guide decision-making among senior business leaders and Corporate / Business Development teams. Many assignments will be highly ambiguous and require an independent, intellectually curious individual who can frame situations through multiple lenses including the end-customer, business owner, and corporate finance professional. More specific job duties and skills required include:

  • Responsible for the financial stewardship of Amazon’s most strategic corporate transactions, including large acquisitions, venture investments, significant commercial deals, and other special corporate projects.

  • Expert at evaluating multiple deals simultaneously and holistically, analyzing potential deals from multiple angles to comprehensively assess risk.

  • Expert in building dynamic financial and valuation models in Excel.

  • Lead advanced M&A analytical deliverables such as standalone intrinsic valuation, trading comps, transaction comps, build vs buy analyses, scenario and sensitivity analyses, investment appraisal, synergy quantification etc. and tackle projects that have no clear roadmap, creating rigorous analytical frameworks that address highly ambiguous problems/questions.

  • Communicate nuanced narratives that represent often complex situations, tough trade-offs, and recommendations.

  • Expert at diving deep into new industries and unfamiliar business models to determine what the right drivers are for each line of an income statement and cash flow statement, fine tuning driver assumptions by gathering input from due diligence, business unit partners, and target management teams.

  • Responsible for supporting business unit leaders on whether to build businesses organically versus acquire them. As such, also responsible for evaluating the credibility of internal Amazon build plans. These analyses are presented directly to VP/SVP decision-makers, meaning the work product is flawless and of the highest standards right out of the gate with no supervision.

  • Accustomed to 1:1 interaction with C-level executives (e.g. CEOs/CFOs) so index high on executive presence and business acumen relative to your peers. Speed matters a lot in this role so you can get up to speed on any situation and produce results in a matter of days when required.

  • Expertise across GAAP accounting principles, controllership, corporate finance, CFA curriculum, financial modelling, valuation, tax, and transaction structuring.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA
  • High proficiency with valuation modeling and techniques
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Fluency with Excel and Capital IQ
  • Excellent business judgment
  • Persuasive oral/written communication skills
  • Financial and valuation modeling skills
