SUMMARY

This grant-funded position is responsible for all aspects of the TRIO SSS Classic Program (TRIO Student Support Services), including program design and implementation, lead student advisor, strategic planning and assessment, recruitment and support, staff supervision and development, budget management, grant preparation, and federal reporting requirements. They will design, implement, supervise, and monitor program activities and outcomes in accordance with federal regulations and program objectives.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Work directly with students who are traditionally underserved, academic, and financial aid advising, career assessment and advising and program fiscal management.
  • Responsible for the administration, implementation, and evaluation of the program.
  • Directly supervise full-time staff and part-staff. Oversee the supervision and management of student staff and volunteers.
  • Serve on appropriate committees that are relevant to the success of the students in the program and goal of graduation.
  • Develop and implement the necessary strategies to carry out the program.
  • Oversee the development of program materials that are required for assessing, recruiting, and monitoring participant progress.
  • Establish and maintain necessary communication, written and verbal, with GVSU and relevant institutions and parties regarding the program.
  • Establish programs and services required to carry out the SSS plan of operation and achieve program objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining accuracy within Student Access and submitting the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Act as the primary liaison for activities and required communication to university personnel and the US Department of Education.
  • Provide one on one counseling and advising to program participants.
  • Oversee, manage, and review the qualifications and selection of participants.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience with TRIO or similar program
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as an advisor, supervising staff, and experience in developing and managing budgets
  • Experience working with underserved populations as those who are in the SSS program or in similar projects whose objectives are like TRIO federal programs
  • Experience in computer literacy including minute manipulating and database management, strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and commitment in working with a diverse population, specifically first-generation, low-income students
  • Experience managing budgets and performing administrative responsibilities
  • Experience hiring/training/and supervising staff
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment. Evening hours and travel required.
