Description of duties:

Highly responsible and complex managerial position requiring technical knowledge in administrative and management practices and principles and an understanding of the principles of wildlife management and ecology.


This is a select exempt service position that serves as the Director of the Public Access Services Office within the Division of Habitat and Species Conservation (HSC) and reports directly to the Division Director. The incumbent provides oversight for operations and direction of the Public Access Services Office. This is a highly responsible leadership position requiring knowledge of resource-based recreation planning and management and sustainable design principles; effective interpretation, communication and outreach strategies; wildlife conservation and habitat management practices; administrative policies and procedures in the areas of planning, budget preparation and administration, personnel administration and property management; knowledge of state and federal laws related to public use of conservation lands, agency operations and legislative procedures and processes.


Responsibilities of this position include strategic and operational planning; leadership and supervision of office personnel; efficient operation and oversight of office administrative functions. The Director coordinates operations with other agency divisions and offices, agency partners and stakeholders; serves as a member or leader of agency teams and represents the agency on various boards and committees; and reviews and comments on proposed legislation of potential impact to the agency. The Director provides leadership and oversight for the office's functions that include planning, design and construction of nature-based recreation opportunities and enhancements; interpretive products and programs; citizen science and stewardship project planning and implementation; and wildlife viewing and nature tourism programs. The Director may represent the FWC at state and national meetings and on external working groups and committees, serves on HSC’s Division Leadership Team, works with stakeholders and partners to ensure responsiveness to their interests and with State and Federal agencies on areas of mutual concern. Coordinates directly with Division and Executive leadership on emerging issues and conservation challenges.


Handles technical questions from Commissioners, Legislators, public, and media on the policies and procedures of the Office and activities of the overall agency. Assists in negotiating contractual services with other state, federal and university institutions to provide the best available scientific, technical and operational knowledge to field staff and public user groups.

Responsible for timely and accurate processing and or approval, as appropriate, of vendor invoices and warrants for payment of goods received or services rendered to avoid automatic interest penalty payments to said vendors.


Responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of Section 215.422, F.S., related to State Comptroller’s rules and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures. Responsibilities may include legislative interactions.

Courteously assists FWC constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have in matters relating to FWC, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation. Seeks to garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida's citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
