JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Accounting reports to the President/CEO and is responsible for all major functions relating to the administration, coordination, and execution of the financial management of Developmental Disabilities Ministries, Inc. (DDM).
This position shall also supervise the Assistant Director of Finance and other positions in the accounting department. For purposes of proper legal documentation with the state, this position may be referred to as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The Director of Accounting is the primary contact for all activities in the Finance/Accounting officeAccount representatives from all banks, utilities, investment contacts, and all other vendors.Job Responsibilities:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and oversee the DDMs finances and general business to ensure corporate compliance, timely task completions, and proper administration of DDM policies and procedures.
- Lead DDMs budget development, preparation and implementation.
- Perform reconciliation and review of account balances, liabilities, contributions, and disbursements, including monitoring and development of effective, realistic budget controls.
- Act as a liaison to the Trustee Finance Committee as directed by the President/CEO, making regular reports to the Board of Trustees related to income, expenditure, budget variations, and any other critical information necessary for decision-making.
- Ensure proper financial reporting and accounting of DDM finances for internal and external uses.
- Review of all bank and other material accounts including reconciling them with general ledger accounts and posting all required adjustments.
- Prepare and post all on-going monthly journal entries.
- Provide timely, accurate financial reports to the President/CEO, Trustees, and other parties, as necessary or requested.
- Serve as DDMs liaison with auditors, coordinating and preparing schedules, as requested by auditor, for annual financial audit.
- Serve as the agency contact with all financial-related institutions.
- Financial Custodian for central office petty cash account; assist with daily bank deposits and writing of checks, if necessary. Manage transferring of funds to appropriate cash and investment accounts based on approved policy.
- Authorized to sign agency checks and other documents; verify validity of checks and report any unusual disbursements and/or activity to President/CEO.
- Direct and supervise the workflow of the Assistant Director of Finance and other support staff (accounts payables/receivables, deposits, check writing).
- Direct and supervise Resident Financial Specialist in administration of resident accounts. Review billing processes and procedures related to the Medicaid Waivers, SSA/SSI/DFACS, and family billing. Process monthly family billing.
- Responsible for DDMs Insurance Program coordinated with the President/CEO including:
- Negotiate annual renewals of the agency Property and Casualty insurance
- Participate in the negotiation of annual employee benefits renewal (medical and life)
- Oversee claims and monitor insurance payments
- Primary contact for the Financial Corporate Compliance Officer to ensure proper financial
compliance and review of agency records, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee new contracts for telephone software, new office equipment (copiers), vehicle purchases, furniture/equipment purchases for the homes as requested by the President/CEO or other management team members.
- Serve as resource on software issues for ACS financial reporting job-related software.
- Additional assignments may be added if necessary by the President/CEO.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
College Degree and minimum of 3 years related experience
Excellent communications skills (writing and speaking)
Excellent analytical, financial and organizational skills
- Understanding of church/denomination relationship and nonprofit organizations
- In depth knowledge of business segment reporting.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, and compliance.
