HDR is seeking a highly motivated, Rail Designer/ EIT with a desire to grow in the field of rail design and construction. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and have an interest in construction inspection, civil grading, track, and bridges, and will meet the required professional skills and abilities listed. The ideal candidate would also periodically work as part of a civil engineering design team in the production of conceptual drawings, preliminary/final design packages, and related design calculations for various rail/transit related projects. This person will be a member of our rail group and will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, intermodal site design, track design, drainage design, specifications, cost estimates, and other related tasks. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. As a Rail Designer/ EIT you will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Rail Designer/EIT, we'll count on you to:
  • Serve in a technical role, under the direction of a Project Engineer or Project Manager
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs for rail projects
  • Take responsibility for project involvement, ranging from site feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Related Engineering Degree
  • Experience in railway engineering and managing complex multidisciplinary railway projects
  • Previous experience in transportation related engineering, particularly rail related work is preferred, but will consider more junior level candidates with strong educational credentials and an interest in rail engineering.
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 12 months. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of “Rail Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting
  • MS Office software experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Candidates who reside locally in the area are preferred
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads and preferably, InRail
