POSITION: Teacher – 2nd Grade Self Contained Classroom
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Immanuel Lutheran School, a fixture in the Hamilton, Ohio community since 1896, is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated self-contained 2nd grade teacher to join our team of outstanding educators. This person will help promote learning and address learning loss directly related to COVID in the assigned grade level and/or subject(s). The person in this position would work alongside three other full time primary teachers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required.
- Appropriate ODE Licensure.
- Mastery of proven strategies that build reading skills.
- Willingness/ability to work as a team member.
- Good organizational skills.
- History of good job attendance.
- Resilience with technology (with emphasis on student engagement and office
productivity).
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills.
- Good relationship skills with co-workers, parents and students.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Healthy balance of self-reliance and receptiveness to feedback.
- Must teach within the guidelines of endorsed curriculum of their assigned placement.
- Must pass criminal background checks, be free from communicable disease.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Homeroom Teacher for 2nd grade class.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, provides classroom, small group, and individualized instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Develop daily lesson plans in line with 2nd grade standards in all subjects using approved curriculum as endorsed by the assigned placement.
- Meet the individual needs of the students and engage with guardians throughout the process.
- Manage and maintain an online gradebook.
- Develops reasonable expectations and rules for classroom behavior through implementation of the PAX system for positive classroom management.
- Assess student growth and progress and customize learning to meet their needs.
- Administers required individual and group assessments in accordance with placement and state testing requirements; and, uses the results of assessments to inform and to guide instruction
- Employs a variety of instructional strategies to cognitively engage learners.
- Incorporates modern technology into instruction to enhance student learning when appropriate.
- Communicates clear learning objectives for all activities and facilitates active learning experiences.
- Teaches in the designated locations and times assigned by the principal.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Monitors cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, play areas, parking lot and other areas, and assists at arrival and dismissal of school as assigned to ensure a safe environment.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board Policy.
- Communicates regularly with parents by reporting student progress, responding to emails, and collaborating with parents.
- Establishes good relationships with students, parents and staff members in order to build partnerships to support student growth.
- Accurately completes record keeping responsibilities including but not limited to progress, grades and attendance, and reports same to the appropriate office as required.
- Disseminates information from the school to students and to families as requested, for example, sending a weekly newsletter.
- Attends and participates in district, department, grade level, and faculty/staff meetings/committees, and in planned professional development activities as requested.
- Collaborates with other staff members to identify and resolve students' health, attitude and learning concerns.
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, support staff, and administration to resolve student concerns or professional conflict.
- Adheres to student service plans including 504 or other written plans for students.
- Prepares adequate plans for substitute teachers to ensure a smooth delivery of the daily lesson plan in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- To help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles that develop good character and a positive and safe environment.
- Various tasks and functions as deemed necessary by leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting.
Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data; schedule; and lift moderate amounts of weight.
Skill in: Basic math, English and communications.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Customary office equipment and technology.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
STARTING DATE: August 2023
SALARY: Based upon the approved Governing Board Salary Schedule
