POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of Med Technologist Specialist, Supervisor/Director and with the ability to work independently, provides specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. The Technologist performs complex technical assignments, which are broadly outlined and require theoretical insight and interpretation. (S)he exercises a high degree of skill and judgement and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of flow cytometry and bone marrow collection and processing. (S)he is also responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all laboratory and policies.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Medical Technologist II reports to Med Technical Specialist and Supervisor or Director. Generally, works independently, seeking guidance from supervisor, hematopathology fellow, pathology residents and/or faculty.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXCERCISED:
May be responsible for limited supervision of laboratory staff.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
All current or future flow cytometers, blood/bone marrow automated stainers, cytocentrifuges and associated computers and software. All standard office equipment such as telephones, PC’s, Laboratory Information System (LIS) terminal and printers, calculator, copier, printers and fax machines.

QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Medical Technology. BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology with at least one year of relevant clinical laboratory experience. AAS with a total of 90 credit hours (as recognized by
New York State). An equivalent combination of education and experience as a Medical Technologist. MT(ASCP) certification desired. Must be NYS Licensed or eligible for NYS licensure.
