Job Summary: The Senior Community Organizer will direct, organize, mobilize, and empower local youth to be leaders for their community by educating, planning, and directing youth-initiated services and advocacy projects, leadership training curriculums, and meetings. This position will manage and coordinate one of Chinatown CDC youth programs, providing training and supervision to youth, volunteers, and youth interns. They will manage and coordinate community service-learning programs with youth, such as youth lead digital literacy classes and educational workshops for monolingual low-income seniors and families, tutoring sessions for children in SROs, etc.

This position will work with youth to implement environmental education and activities from the Public Utilities Commission and CA Parks. They will also plan and lead a series of workshops and field trips to promote cultural exchange and stop AAPI hate.

Status: Full-time, Exempt, Regular
Location: Chinatown neighborhood, San Francisco
Hours: Monday through Friday, general business hours; must be flexible with work hours, frequent evenings and weekends
Salary: $70,452 - $74,160 annually; Comprehensive benefits

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct, organize, mobilize, empower and provide leadership development to local youth to be leaders in their community
  • Plan, implement and coordinate youth service-learning programs (i.e., intergeneration programming, creative community-building, SRO children's program, etc.)
  • Meet with youth one-on-one to conduct health and wellness check-ins and make appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Coordinate and facilitate youth meetings and workshops, and work with youth leaders to conduct membership recruitment and outreach
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct youth leadership trainings and workshop curriculums
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and coordinate work for youth interns and volunteers
  • Coordinate social events for youth including retreats, holiday parties, BBQs, etc.
  • Represent organization and build relationships with other San Francisco youth programs, high schools, community agencies, city agencies and departments
  • Work with youth manager and community organizing manager to track and implement the CA Outdoors grant.
  • Perform advocacy on youth issues and community needs in San Francisco
  • Work with the college attainment consultant to implement program deliverables

Supervisory Duties:

  • Responsible for the recruitment, interview, and selection of directly supervised position vacancies
  • Ensure staff know and follow safe work practices and policies
  • Recruit, interview, and hire for vacancies in directly supervised positions
  • Complete reporting for grants and contract in a timely manner

Other

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships and alliances with youth groups in San Francisco
  • Work with other staff on joint projects as appropriate

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Ability to build strong rapport with youth
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and public relations/marketing skills
  • Ability to be flexible and perform a variety of tasks
  • Sensitivity to the needs of low-income and monolingual populations, particularly to the youth population
  • Good listening skills and ability to exercise patience and flexibility
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team structure
  • Capacity to work evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of Chinatown neighborhood and community resources
  • Good computer skills, including facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher
  • Grant writing skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three (3) years of experience running youth programs and working with youth, particularly those from low-income, immigrant communities and low-income clients
  • One year (1) of experience supervising staff and/or youth
  • One (1) year of experience working with the Chinatown neighborhood and issues relevant to the community
  • Experience in program planning, facilitating meetings, and conducting training
  • Knowledge of mental health resources and experience working with youth regarding mental health
  • Bilingual in Cantonese and English
