Job Summary:


Nature of Work

CellSight, the Ocular Stem Cell and Regeneration Program at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, seeks a full-time (1.O FTE) Research Associate to carry out research in the areas of stem cell technologies and regenerative medicine. CellSight is a cross-disciplinary team of investigators working in a highly collaborative environment with the common goal of developing novel stem cell-based therapeutics to treat ocular diseases. This is an exciting, new line of work using cutting-edge technology in the stem cell field and we are looking for motivated and independent scientists willing to contribute their expertise and knowledge. There is no direct patient care or contact involved in this position.

Examples of Work Performed

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Culture, maintenance and expansion of hiPSC
  • Differentiation of 3D retinal organoids from hiPSC
  • Test and validate new procedures and reagents for improved culture and differentiation of hiPSC
  • Establish best practices and SOPs for quality control of hiPSC lines and cultures
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory of hiPSC bank; perform routine quality control of banked cells
  • Design and execution of experiments; collection, analysis and interpretation of data
  • Contribute to research projects led by CellSight investigators by assisting in specific techniques and providing hiPSC-derived research materials
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
  • Maintain effective communication with CellSight investigators and other team members

Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

  • PhD Degree in a biomedical science discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in research in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Research experience in culture and differentiation of stem cells, especially human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)
  • Experience in cell biology techniques, including tissue processing, immune-based assays, fluorescence standard and confocal microscopy
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation; cDNA synthesis; real time PCR; vector construction and cloning; plasmid preparations; western blot; electrophoresis; CRISPR-Cas9 construct design and transgenic cell line generation
  • Track of co-authored publications in relevant fields

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Experience with manuscript and grant writing

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $75,000-$80,000

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
