Program Description

Inland SoCal United Way’s ISC 211+ provides timely, effective access to accurate and comprehensive information and referrals for the residents of the Inland Empire, provides public information support in times of disaster and answers several specialized lines for assistance in such areas as CalFresh, child abuse reporting, reentry and after hours calls for other agencies. ISC 211+ is the trusted source of verified health and social service information, designed to assist people in overcoming barriers.

Position Overview:

The 211 Reentry Specialist under the purview of the 211 Director, will have an emphasis on assisting those re-entering the general population following incarceration or any type of justice involved situation. This position responds to calls, collects information, performs caller assessment, provides information to people seeking help, advocates as needed and conducts follow-up calls. This position will also do outreach and attend appropriate collaborations as needed. This part-time, non-exempt, grant-funded position carries with it the possibility that it may not be renewed if further funding is not obtained. The availability of grant funds does not guarantee continued employment. No contract is implied; this position is “at-will” and employment may be terminated at any time by the employee or the employer. This position reports to the 211 Operations Manager. This full-time non-exempt position is funded for 1 year and carries the possibility that it may be renewed if further funding is obtained. Essential Functions – 90%

  • Answer incoming telephone calls, collect caller data and enter into databases
  • Assess needs of callers and refer callers to appropriate resources
  • Perform advocacy as needed
  • Represent 211 San Bernardino at public and private events as needed, particularly as they pertain to reentry
  • Refer callers to appropriate resources and assist them in navigating systems to ensure they can make connections to needed services
  • Identify reentry organizations that could be added to the 211 databases in order to increase the availability of resources for the targeted population. As necessary and appropriate, help facilitate the registration of these agencies into the 211 system
  • Answer 211 calls for all county lines.
  • Conduct follow-up surveys with callers
  • Successfully maintain performance parameters and improve skills through various means
  • Assist in providing information for required reports on a monthly and or quarterly basis

Secondary Functions – 25%

  • General clerical duties, which may include letter writing, faxing, copying, message handling, reports, office inventory, filing, data input and maintenance of marketing materials
  • Attend conferences, training sessions and other events to promote ongoing development and broaden awareness of issues and resources related to the target population
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Compassionate and non-judgmental, with tact and courtesy in expressing options or ideas, recognizing opportunities to enhance community relations.
  • Knowledge of local resources
  • Must be willing and able to become AIRS/CIRS certified
    • CAADAC certification or equivalent training/experience helpful
    • Experience in court/probation/parole and basic criminal justice-must understand culture and barriers to reentry
    • Experience working directly with prison population or those reentering from incarceration
    • Basic computer skills for email, data entry and report writing
    • Spanish fluency highly desired but not mandatory
    • Must have reliable transportation, a valid California driver’s license, proof of minimum required California vehicle liability insurance and a good driving record
    • In the event of a disaster, may be required to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days per wee

Salary Range and Benefits

Wage $19.50/hour, payable bi-weekly. Benefits include vision, dental, medical, life, AD&D and long term disability insurance, 11 paid holidays, accrued vacation and sick-leave.
