Are you a team player? If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for the Public Advocate Special Investigator open in the Department of Public Advocacy.

In this important role in Kentucky’s largest criminal defense firm, you will be acting as a liaison to the General Counsel in the Public Advocates office. You will be expected to plan and perform complex investigative services including the interviewing of clients, witnesses, and prospective witnesses, perform background searches, serve subpoenas, prepare exhibits and testify in judicial, administrative or Personnel Board hearings. Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal-are a must. The ideal candidate will investigate and coordinate investigations at the direction of the general counsel, research and recommend appropriate case direction and recommend and coordinate the assistance of expert witnesses when needed. The ability to coordinate and multi-task time sensitive materials are highly valued as this position will assist in formulating and recommending operation policies, perform functional supervision over agency implementation of the safety program., manage reports, prioritize, and complete requested duties independently.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in law enforcement, general investigation or a related field of investigation plus three years of experience as a Public Advocate Investigator III.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Completion of 54 semester hours at a college or university will substitute for two years of the non-Public Advocate Investigator III experience OR a bachelor's degree from a college or university will substitute for the four years of the non-Public Advocate Investigator III experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
Interviews are often conducted in prisons, low-income housing and unfamiliar or confrontational settings. May work irregular hours due to nature of investigative work. Extensive travel is required
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
