Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (MCO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and deliver trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. We're looking for an exceptional Principal Program Manager to join our team and help us build the network that drives our cloud.

As the Principal Program Manager for our Data Center Development (DCD) US Central Team, you'll be responsible for leading project delivery at each site location, ensuring it meets DCD Guidelines and standards. We're seeking someone with a background in data center design, engineering, controls, and operational requirements who can also emphasize project and construction management, datacenter lease market experience, client representation, and project-level services.

You'll also collaborate with Microsoft Security, Microsoft IT (MSIT), Legal, Project Engineering, Business Risk Management, and other internal groups to maintain our corporate vision and goals for the project.

In addition to managing vendor performance, overseeing project controls, and engaging with our partners, you'll be responsible for coordinating communications plans and community involvement with support from our Data Center Operations (DCOPs), Real Estate Services, Data Center Services, and Corporate Communications teams.

Business Processes:
  • Create and maintain best practices to identify and incorporate cost-effective solutions
  • Manage the selection, contracting, and integration of multiple vendors and internal partners
  • Drive deployment of solutions that can be socialized globally across DCD projects
  • Facilitate decision-making to drive solutions, schedules, and manage change as required
  • Apply influence, strategies, and negotiation skills to identify options and recommend solutions
Communication:

  • Regularly reviews cost and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs),metrics, invoices, process/policy communications to client partners
  • Provide project single point of contact for project development and delivery
  • Coordinate meetings and activities of vendors, cost managers, and integration of lessons learned
  • Attend scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings, and report as necessary
  • Report Project Progress on scope, schedule, and budget weekly or as required
  • Provide weekly project status reporting to DCD standard
Accountability:
  • Responsible for developing, managing, and reporting on safety, scope, schedule, and budget
  • Direct fiscal responsibility for the approved project budget
  • Work independently in support of the DCD Program
Other:
  • Provide team oversight and performance management
  • Preparation of Request for Proposal (RFP’s), and other project approval tools & templates
  • Review and approval of vendor/contractor scope of work, and design review of site and building plans
  • Manage compliance within the team and contractors.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in data center construction, mission critical facilities or relevant construction management background.
Background Check Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 15+ years of related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of project management experience.
  • 10+ years of people management experience.
  • Data center construction or project management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple large multi-faceted projects.
  • Ability to independently manage deadlines and support staff.
  • Ability to influence cross-discipline teams.
  • Construction Health & Safety Knowledge.
Construction Project Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
