DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The principal has the responsibility of seeing that all employees under direct supervision fulfill their working obligations regarding time and efficiency to the best of their ability. This includes any employee who is paid an additional salary above his/her base as an extra-service increment.
- Shall under the supervision of the Superintendent be responsible for the general management and discipline of his/her school and for the care and use of the building, grounds, and all equipment.
- Shall be responsible for the management of all public funds handled in the school. The principal shall maintain an adequate internal accounting system and provide an annual financial report to the Board.
- Shall develop a comprehensive program of public relations.
- Shall be responsible to see that all unauthorized persons are restricted from school grounds during school days and all school functions.
- Shall be responsible for constant evaluation and supervision of the instructional program and shall at all times plan and adopt the courses of study to the needs, interests, and abilities of the child.
- Shall work closely with the Superintendent.
- Shall see that all pupils who stay at school for any purpose must be under the direct supervision of the teacher or the principal.
- Shall make recommendation for employment on all certified personnel to the Director of Human Resources.
- Shall work closely with the Director of Human Resources on the employment of classified personnel.
- Shall develop or cause to be developed a school philosophy and a student handbook.
- Shall insure that all utilization of the school building by non-school groups is in compliance with Board of Education policies.
- Shall insure that all Board policies and administrative directives are fulfilled.
- Shall be responsible for implementing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (PH93-380) and Public Law 94-142.
- Shall be responsible for holding one fire drill per month, or a minimum of eight per year. It is recommended that the principal have at least four drills per semester. The principal is also responsible for holding three disaster drills per year. Such drills shall be so organized as to simulate emergency conditions.
- Shall inform his staff (certified and classified) of related information disseminated in principals' meetings by the Superintendent by a faculty meeting or bulletin/newsletter. This information must be disseminated by the principal not later than two working days after his/her reception of the information. (A record system shall be maintained in the principal's office of this dissemination process.)
- The principal and/or his/her designee shall be responsible for the supervision of all students during the loading and unloading of buses. Afternoon bus duty involving secondary students at various elementary schools shall be the responsibility of the elementary building level principal.
- Shall maintain a list of the names of students transported by each bus serving his/her school district. (This list shall be updated annually.)
- The principal shall be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all certified personnel assigned to his/her building.
- Shall perform any other duties or responsibilities deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
Requirements:
- proper Kentucky School Principal certification;
- classroom teaching experience;
- to be a role model in research-based teaching strategies and intervention programs to promote student achievement; and
- Physical, TB risk assessment, state/national criminal background check, CAN Check, and drug screen.
Working 240 days for the 2023-24 school year.
