Our Kidney Dialysis Unit (KDU), located at Alamance Regional Medical Center, is a 6-bay suite with a primary focus on patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). We also focus on patients who need Peritoneal Dialysis (PD).

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), provides quality patient care using the nursing process standards and policies established by the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and hospital standards. Talent Pool: Nursing

Responsibilities:


Responsible for providing direct nursing care for hospitalized patients requiring dialysis and/or apheresis services; under the direct supervision of Dialysis Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse. Provides appropriate treatment techniques for the following procedures: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, apheresis. Conducts necessary tasks for preparation of and implementation of prescribed treatment therapies. Evaluates and monitors patient responses to treatment therapies. Communicates effectively with providers to ensure safety during treatment therapy. Makes appropriate adjustments and modifications to treatment plan as indicated by providers and under the direct supervision of Dialysis Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse. Accurately documents as required and when appropriate. Operates therapy related equipment appropriately and safely. Provides equipment troubleshooting when necessary. Efficiently utilizes supplies to prevent waste.
Performs general patient care under the direction of the Dialysis RN or Nephrologist. Collects patient history and medical information and any additional information such as biological, psychological, social and cultural factors needed to provide complete treatment of the patient and documents in medical record. Performs clinical and technical aspects of nursing care in accordance with prescribed procedure and technique and according to Kidney Dialysis Unit standards and competencies. Implements plan of care as directed by Dialysis RN or Nephrologist and documents nursing interventions performed according to policy and procedure. Documents patient response to interventions and communicates effectiveness to Dialysis RN or Nephrologist. Implements proper procedure, technique and safety precautions as warranted by condition of patient, and monitors such practices by Dialysis Tech.

Recognizes communication barriers, identifies resources and establishes plans to resolve barriers to communication. Demonstrates respect for diversity and cultural differences in patient related to age, ethnicity, gender, religion, socioeconomics, education, personality, or other unique variable. Advocates for the patient. Demonstrates skillful responses to customer needs based on particular context of the situation. Provides education to staff related to the patient/nurse relationship.
Demonstrates personal accountability and effective conflict resolution/negotiation skills. Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment. Maintains safe environment and responds appropriately to emergencies and safety hazards. Promotes positive, supportive, and professional work environment free of disruptive behavior. Follows Chain of Command for assistance with issues related to unresolved/problem-solving and/or conflict resolution. Provides, seeks and receives constructive feedback. Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required:
Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing program required.
Completion of Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) required within 4 years of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

1 year, Healthcare - Nurse: LPN, LVN, Preferred
One year professional experience in a clinical setting preferred.

BLS (CPR) | American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
