Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is currently the fourth largest of North Carolina Community College System’s 58 institutions. On our six campuses and through our online offerings, we annually serve approximately 27,500 students, 60% of whom are students of color.

are looking for an exceptional leader, who shares our institutional mission, vision, and values, to join the team as our new Instructional Librarian.
The Instructional Librarian will work under the direct supervision of the Library Director. This student-focused librarian will create, develop and facilitate information literacy sessions. In addition, this role will collect and analyze statistical data, participate in library outreach along with providing suggestions for collection development and acquisitions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as a willingness to work cooperatively.
Duties/Functions
  • Provide reference and research services to students, faculty, and staff utilizing print and electronic resources in-person and online.
  • Facilitate information literacy sessions to in-person and online classes using the Integrated Library System – OCLC/Worldshare Management Services and the college Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.
  • Collect and analyze data from information literacy sessions. Understand the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)) requirements and assist in ensuring compliance.
  • Participate in outreach opportunities to market library resources and services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Create and assess student learning objectives for information literacy classes.
  • Create and maintain online research guides using multiple tools.
  • Participate in collection development and collection weeding.
  • Recommend equipment, hardware, and software purchases.
  • Seek professional development opportunities in information literacy.
  • Assists reference librarians at other campuses as needed.
  • Participate in campus-wide activities, committees, and meetings.
  • Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and team work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Required
  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science/Studies from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
Education Preferred Experience Required
  • 3 years of experience teaching research skills and information literacy in an academic library.
  • 3 years of experience designing and developing informal and formal content using various learning tools.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Experience teaching information literacy concepts to students.
Experience Preferred
  • Greater than 3 years of experience teaching research skills and information literacy in an academic library.
  • Greater than 3 years of experience designing and developing informal and formal content using various learning tools.
  • Experience creating and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Experience using LibGuides software and the LibApps platform.
KSA Required
  • Knowledge of online learning management systems such as Blackboard, Canvas or Moodle.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
KSA Preferred
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, cooperative, team-oriented working relationship with faculty, staff, coworkers and students.
  • Commitment to working effectively as part of a library team to support student learning.
