STARTING SALARY: $14.50 - $18.72/hour

STATUS: Seasonal (part-time, non-benefitted, 6 months or less); Morning and Afternoon times available to teach swimming lessons. Opportunity to teach private lessons.

DEPARTMENT: Alta Canyon Sports Center – Parks and Recreation

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Pool Site Supervisor and Program & Aquatics Coordinator, organize, supervise, and implement swim school activities and participants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be 16 years of age and have knowledge of swimming strokes and techniques. Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required; must successfully complete oral, written and practical water exams. Knowledge of leadership, team building, and ability to be self-motivating; proper English usage, spelling and vocabulary. Great responsibility for the care, and wellbeing of class patrons, materials, equipment, tools, etc. Must have ability to react responsibly in an emergency situation. Good communication skills: contacts requiring tact and judgment to avoid friction and to handle complaints; frequent contacts involving the carrying out of programs and schedules requiring the influencing of others to obtain desired result; outside contact with public presenting; ability to communicate effectively with all age groups; ability to enforce pool regulation in a firm manner, while maintaining good public relations. Use of specialized equipment related to the assigned activity/sport. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
