Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC), whose aim is to connect people to Christ, has been serving Brooklyn for over 140 years. With more than 4,000 members, Emmanuel has one of the city’s largest community impact outreach ministries, including Girl Scouts and an economic development initiative to strengthen families through financial education, housing advocacy and employment opportunities. Located in the Clinton Hill section of
Brooklyn, EBC is currently looking for a dynamic person to join the Finance Team as the
Fiscal Manager.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Fiscal Manager will be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of daily/weekly/monthly financial reporting, as well as budgeting and forecasting processes.
This role, which reports to the Executive Pastor, processes payroll, AP/AR accounts reconciliations (with assistance from the Asst Fiscal Manager), AP/AR statistics reporting, and various research and analysis projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review account balances and monitor cash flow on daily basis. Make interfund transfers when required. Contact the banking institutions in matters related to banking and finance activities.
  • Process payroll.
  • Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements.
  • Reconcile monthly cash receipts and online giving deposits.
  • Record payroll data per payroll register in QuickBooks.
  • Provide backup documentation for check processing.
  • Record and monitor funds allocated to church initiatives: Mission and

Benevolence Fund, Deacons Fellowship Fund, Special Project Fund, Savings
Fund, Scholarship Fund, and Capital/Facility Maintenance Fund.

  • Record and monitor all other restricted funds.
  • Review and analyze general ledger/financial statements on daily basis. Make adjustments when necessary.

  • Prepare quarterly, semi-annual, and annual financial reports for trustee board and church meetings.
  • Coordinate with budget committee by providing financial data in planning for annual operating budget.
  • Monitor actual expenses versus annual operating budget on regular basis.
  • Coordinate with independent auditors for annual financial statements audit.
  • Prepare and submit annual payroll audit to determine annual insurance premium for workers compensation.
  • Prepare and submit annual electronic Disability-Employee reconciliation and calculation of premium.
  • Liaise with third party administrator regarding employee 401k plan. Submit employees individual contributions on bi-weekly basis to 401k fund. Review and approve employees 401k loans and withdrawals request. Prepare annual employee census/data for 5500 filing to Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • Respond to government/private agencies on matters related to taxes, garnishments, levies, and other finance and accounting issues.
  • Handle any other matters related to finance & accounting as instructed by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent field.
  • At least 5 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll software is a MUST; experience with ADP Run is a plus.
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g. Quickbooks) is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word and Power Point is required.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized and ability to work independently.
  • Able to maintain absolute objectivity and confidentiality with all employees and all payroll related data.
  • Experience working at a nonprofit or church preferred..
