OVERVIEW
The Director – Energy Management and Special Project Execution (Energy & Water) will report directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer. The person in this role will collaborate and coordinate with site level sustainability engineers / managers, engineering managers, powerhouse engineers, site operations team and corporate engineering team when necessary. The successful candidate will be responsible for reducing ASR’s energy and water usage and cost and improve its sustainability performance by implementing and managing ASR’s energy management program and leading / helping execute energy efficiency projects. The member will facilitate development and implementation of energy best practices, energy toolkit training, and an employee’s energy awareness programs. Additional resource conservation projects may be assigned as necessary based on organizational needs.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute, on ASR’s strategic plan for Decarbonization with focus on the Energy Management Program and Best Practice, in concert with ESG Leadership team, site sustainability leaders and operations & engineering team.
- Oversee energy, water and other sustainability project implementation and provide technical input and guidance to site sustainability leaders and project teams for successful and timely execution of these projects / initiatives.
- Tracks monthly energy consumption, variance to reduction goals and budgeted utilities cost saving. Make business case for implementing and managing Utility Bill Pay and Management system.
- Analyze utilities data and identify opportunities for improvements. Assist with any third-party energy audits / site assessments and validation programs. Identify and create project scopes and plan for associated capital investment in collaboration with corporate engineering team.
- Assist site sustainability leaders in developing applications for federal / provincial / state / utilities specific Energy Efficiency Incentive / Rebates / Grants / Green Funds etc. for appropriate efficiency projects.
- Coordinate with site sustainability leaders, powerhouse and engineering teams and corporate resources to develop and share energy & sustainability best practices and maintain site-specific energy & sustainability efficiency training.
- Be proactive and committed to continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCES
- At least 12 years of progressively responsible work experience in implementing and managing organization wide energy programs, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, including managing teams of professionals to implement complex energy projects and/or respond to complex energy solicitations with exposure to powerhouse, boilers and steam systems.
- Experience in managing organization wide utilities and energy systems including bill pay management & energy metering, monitoring and tracking system.
- Experience in training & teaching employees on energy management best practices. energy assessment equipment’s & tools
- Familiarity with SBTi, Net Zero, Energy Star program.
- Understanding of manufacturing infrastructure equipment’s & capital planning and replacement cycles.
REQUIRED TRAVEL
- Ability to travel 30 - 40% to all of our global facilities.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in energy management, energy technology and/or relevant engineering field.
- Advanced Degrees (Masters in Energy or Engineering / MBA) preferred.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
- Experience with operational and facility improvements to meet energy usage reduction and cost reduction objectives.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification and/or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) desirable
- Good understanding of Energy tools and software including Sankey Diagram.
- Excellent techno-financial acumen including IRR, NPV, Payback etc.
- Data driven. Exposure to Lean Six Sigma Tools and Operational Excellence philosophies.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance short and long-term objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent business interests to 3rd parties.
- Proactive, self-directed, highly organized, and committed to continuous improvement.
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (PPT, Excel, Word).

- West Palm Beach, FL; This position may be permitted to remain co-located at the Baltimore, MD, Yonkers, NY, Chalmette, LA refineries.
