New Alternatives, Inc. is a large non-profit agency in San Diego and Orange County providing mental health services to the most vulnerable youth in the county. NAI operates residential programs, outpatient/crisis/behavioral programs, emergency/crisis programs, THP-TAY programs and foster family programs.

New Alternatives, Inc. falls under the California Public Health Order and is additionally required by our county contract to ensure that all employees are vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC) is a 24-hour facility for the temporary emergency shelter of children who have been placed in protective custody for their own safety due to abuse or neglect or their parents' inability to provide for them. Many of our clients have experienced complex trauma and have had several failed placements when arriving at PCC. New Alternatives provides the therapeutic support for assessment and stabilization of clients age 3 to a day before their 18th birthday. Our skilled professionals work collaboratively with complex multi-disciplinary teams to provide evidence-based interventions from a trauma-informed lens. New Alternatives, Inc., Polinsky Children’s Center is seeking an experienced Licensed Eligible Clinician to provide therapeutic support to the children of Polinsky Children’s Center.

Services we provide include; conducting Behavioral Health Assessment and Diagnosis, Client Planning, Individual Psychotherapy, Group Psychotherapy, Rehab services, Case Management, Coordination of Care, and Consultation. All documentation is completed on San Diego County’s electronic health record.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family counseling or other field of study that qualifies for licensure in the State of California.
  • Current California BBS registration and intern number required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual in Spanish preferred, other languages also a plus.

  • Experience working with youth and families, or adult/families in mental health or substance use and recovery
  • Experience with youth in out-of-home placements.
  • Strong awareness and proficiency working with clients from multi-cultured backgrounds.
  • Strong self-assessment, self-awareness, and self-regulations skills.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing
  • Ability to conceptualize a client from a wide lens. Taking into consideration, trauma, early childhood experiences, culture, family dynamics, physical health, social functioning, intellectual ability and other domains that contribute to the client's current presentation
  • Experience providing therapy to children with autism and/or sensory processing challenges.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy.
  • Responsible for completing a thorough assessment of need with youth and family, when indicated, to identify needs in the following areas: Primary Care physician, Substance Abuse treatment, support and/or treatment for domestic violence, medication management, therapy services, behavioral services, educational advocacy, and parenting education and support.
  • Formulate, monitor, and revise client plan goals, focused on safety and improving social, emotional, and behavioral functioning for stabilization.
  • Responsible to ensure assigned medical records comply with all State and County mandates regarding implementation of services
  • Participate in case consultation with direct care staff and psychiatrist as needed.
  • Able to assist with crisis assessment and intervention as needed.
  • Utilize effective collaboration with community providers to increase youth and family follow through with referred services.
  • Participate in trainings, exhibit competency and utilize the following evidence based & promising practices: Trauma Informed Care practices, Motivational Interviewing, WRAP, additional as deemed appropriate.
  • Understand, embrace and be a TIC champion in ALL aspects of their role
  • Will act as ICC (intensive Case Coordinator) and perform all duties associated with ICC to ensure Pathways to Well-Being integrated and executed, when there is not another appropriate designee
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Starting pay between $28-$31/hour ($32-$35/hour for Licensed/Lead Clinician)

Clinic hours: Monday-Friday: 10:30am-7:00pm;

Saturday-Sunday: 8:30am-5:00pm;

Holidays: 8:30am-5:00pm

Currently looking for Tuesday-Saturday shift (see above clinic hours for 8-hour shift schedule) or Wed-Sat 10 hour shifts (Wed-Fri 9am-730pm, Sat 8am-630pm)

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
